It lights up red while the batteries are being charged, green when the batteries are fully charged and flashes red if the batteries are inserted incorrectly. There is room for either 2 or 5 batteries at the same time. The battery charger comes with a micro usb cable that can be inserted directly into the computer or any USB charger.
