18th Century Oil on Leather "The Battle of Cannae" Decorative A bespoke box ottoman coveredA pair of large painted leather panels depicting the 'Battle of Cannae'. Both panels comprise of four leather sections mounted on board with an oil painted, tooled and worked surfaces. Remarkable surface detail throughout. Portugese , late 18th Century. Signed P. B. to one panel. The panels originated from a family member at Soldon Manor, Devon. The Battle of Cannae was a key engagement of the Second Punic War between the Roman Republic and Carthage.
