But just as they are about to begin their adult lives, they fall in love with the same girl. The rivalry drives a wedge between the two young men who were previously almost like brothers. A tragedy occurs that further reinforces the feeling that they don't really know each other anymore. Erlan enlists and soon distinguishes himself as a member of a Kazakh special forces unit.
