In the 18th 19th centuries, the design of the knob molding depended on where the hanger was placed. In simpler spaces, they were usually undecorated and rustic like this example. Served then as now as a clothes hanger or for kitchen towels and aprons. Vintage items are sold as is with the wear and tear that comes with usage and age.
